The Hope… Generation
Out of all the disconcerting phenomena that could unsettle many a young person, hopelessness is the chief of the lot. Being incapacitated is but for a while, given the surrounding circumstances, but being hopeless is mentally destructive.
The young graduate has striven to make his grades look good on paper (either brown or white), but he’s out of school now, and ironically out of a job. The younger ones who used look up to him as an exemplar have begun reconsidering their stand-point.
The impoverished parents who used to believe sending their wards to school meant a lot, now regret ever doing that. Their children (whom have been hoped to help dust-off their poverty) are now back home, squatting with them.
The few youths who are opportune to enjoy certain privileges have other vices they battle with, which brings their humanity and morality to questioning. Others, who are privileged to cross from this side to the other side have totally erased the memories of struggle off their brains. They have also jumped on the bandwagon of oppression.
We aren’t too young to run. Nay! But, aren’t we too weak to run? Aren’t we just a bunch of selfish individuals who are going there to continue perpetuating the atrocities of the phasing-out generation? Aren’t we… never mind.
This is a time for us all to reassess ourselves. Inordinate obsession for power, now, will do us no good. We’d only look back in the next 20 years and weep. Yes, weep for how bad we have destroyed our future and our children’s.
